Filmic reimagining of the classic children’s boardgame as an allegorical commentary on systemic gender role bias in western society.
Bergen stars as an independent woman striving to further her career as an investigative food journalist despite the challenges presented by single motherhood, kyriarchical oppression, and tooth decay.
When she goes over her news editor’s head to break a major story on a corporate coverup of a diabetes scandal, she is fired; documents showing that the management of Candyland News Network had her removed at the request of the Wonka Corporation are leaked on social networking site Sweeter.com, thrusting her into the center of a national debate about corporate ethics and preventative dental care.
At one point she appears on a political talk show called Hard Candy, where in an argument with Senator Jimbo Licorice, she slams her fist on the table and declares that “even if it’s made of sugar glass, it’s still a goddamned glass ceiling!”
