With the “United States of X” meme making the rounds lately, this seemed like a gimme: use “[statename] is ” as a prompt for Google and see what it thinks I might be trying to find out about every state in the nation.
It turns out that a lot of people seem to think a lot of places are boring and/or awesome and/or racist.
Totally unscientific methodology:
For each state where “[state name] is ” produced a list that contained (along with other sorts of phrases) some sort of plausible single-word descriptive state of being, I used that. For states where multiple such choices showed up in the suggestions, I picked the less common one for the sake of variety.
For states where no usable descriptor showed up in the default prompt, I started adding a prompt letter and used the first label that came along, incrementing the prompt letter each time to cycle through the alphabet so I didn’t end up with a bunch of “awesome”s or “awful”s.
>Let’s be honest, Massachusetts is wicked awesome.
